An ode, mesmerizing pieces that bring back Colombian craft and decode a mix of traditional and contemporary. Verdi Textile Studio, an immersion into the depths of a culture full of colors and hints captured in geometrical shapes that glimpse legacy.
Based in Bogotá, Verdi is a brand that carries the essence of Colombia in every thread. What started as an experiment playing with roots and mixing materials, has become a vivid representation of the country´s origins.
Chimera. Carlos Vera Dieppa started in 1995, without realizing it, what Verdi stands for today. A brand that creates home wear, fashion, and art pieces, merging traditional materials like fique palm with contemporary ones like metal. Years later, his son Carlos and daughter Cristina continue his legacy, giving it a new meaning, a voice that screams Colombia.
Following the original technic that intertwines natural threads and metal into looms, the brand started producing rugs and later moved into a more intricate concept, where they create pieces that can either dress an outfit or elevate spaces into the sublime. One of a kind fique and metal rugs, organic-silk cushions, plantain-fiber, and copper-thread curtains, textiles, tableware, and silver-plated handbags, among other items, are part of their universe.
The gem. La Mochila Verdi is a handwoven piece that exemplifies the country´s cultural diversity and workmanship. Weavers that carry within the expertise of generations that add with each knot a chapter to a story yet to be told.
Masters of the craft. Each fiber is extracted carefully from nature and treated with tenderness by over 25 families of farmers in Curití, Santander. “They are taught how to grow, cut, comb, dry, dye, and process the fibers until made into the threads we use at our workshop”.
Display of devotion. About thirty expert weavers hold in their hands the expertise of generations. Seeing them work is like seeing an intimate dance between the artist and its loom, hands, and feet moving at the rhythm of each thread that slowly falls into place to complete the circle.
Verdi Textile Studio is the compilation of heritage elevated to a new concept where the mix between natural fibers and metal beams at its core. Traditional technics fall into place, leaving a footprint in every space they inhabit with finely sourced details to combine craftsmanship with luxury, never leaving behind the reminiscence of Colombia in each piece.
